Hands-on Training
Wet Lab Workshop in Progress
MS CVTS residents conducting hands-on cardiac surgical simulations in the wet lab suite under the guidance of senior consultants.
Bridging surgical theory and operating theatre mastery through structured ex-vivo dissection, vascular anastomosis simulation, and faculty-guided technical training for MS CVTS residents at NICVD.
The Department of Cardiac Surgery at NICVD operates a dedicated Wet Lab Workshop designed to provide surgical residents with repetitive, deliberate practice in essential open-heart surgical techniques prior to live patient operations.
From microscopic coronary artery anastomosis to complex valve sizing and spatial chamber navigation, trainees develop tactile muscle memory, instrumental ergonomics, and stereoscopic vision under the continuous mentorship of senior faculty surgeons.
Each module is tailored to the progressive stages of the MS Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery residency program.
Hands-on gross dissection of ex-vivo porcine hearts providing realistic tissue consistency and human-comparable anatomy:
Precision microvascular suturing simulating coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) anastomoses:
Tactile simulation of prosthetic and native valvular procedures:
Structured evaluation and direct feedback from senior cardiac surgery professors:
Photographic records of residents and faculty during live simulation workshops at NICVD.
Hands-on Training

Micro-Suturing
Trainees mastering precision end-to-side and end-to-end vascular anastomoses using 7-0 and 8-0 polypropylene sutures.
Demonstration
Senior faculty demonstrating valve orientation, suture line placement, and spatial ergonomics on the porcine dissection simulator.
